Bio-identical Hormone Replacement
If you’ve been noticing small changes in your body – a change in your menstrual cycle, a lack of energy, changes in sleep patterns, increased anxiety, changes in mood, loss of libido, loss of muscle mass, changes in body or facial hair, or an increase in body fat even when you have not changed your diet- you may be experiencing a fluctuation in your hormonal balance. We have several testing and treatment options available to women who are concerned that they may need hormone replacement therapy, including bioidentical hormone pellet therapy.
Bioidentical hormones were first used for menopausal symptom relief in the 1930s, and starting in 1980, side effects caused by synthetic progestin use prompted more research into bioidentical progesterone. Although synthetically derived hormone supplements are widely available, because bioidentical hormones are so similar to what your own body produces, they may be more effective and cause fewer side effects than their synthetic counterparts. Specific hormones used in bioidentical hormone therapy include estrone, estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone, which are available both in FDA-approved manufactured products and as pharmacy-compounded products. One of our treatment options involves implantation of a bio-identical hormone pellet under the skin which will consistently release small, physiologic doses of hormones.
Hormone replacement therapy with pellet implants is an effective bio-identical method to deliver hormones in both men and women, however, your provider can discuss other available options which may suit your individual needs better.
